School Talks:

I also regularly visit schools around the country to give talks about the Classical World.

In 2011 I have continued to speak at schools across the country, including as part of the Mayor of London's 'Classics in Schools' initiative.

In 2010, I worked with The Latin Programme - via facilis, which provides Latin teachers to state primary schools www.thelatinprogramme.co.uk. I spent a week teaching 8-10 years olds across London about what Romans looked liked and how they dressed, from the Emperor to the Gladiators in the arena.

“Michael Scott's talk was engaging, interesting and provocative. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the children who clearly enjoyed learning from such an authority on Roman culture.

The children's endless questions, ready participation and vociferous applause showed that Michael's talk was a perfect introduction to the wonders of the Ancient World”.

Jonathan Goddard, Teacher, The Latin Programme via facilis.

In 2009, I spoke at the East Midlands Association of Classics Teachers 6th Form Classics Day and the British Museum ancient world AS and A2 study day, as well as at schools around the country.

In 2008 I visited schools in London, Rugby and Huddersfield as well as speaking at a schools day held in Cambridge on the subject of death in the ancient world. For some pictures of the visit to Huddersfield see here.

For comments on the visit in the Times please see here.

If you would like me to speak at your school, please feel free to get in touch!

Ancient Greece Column

Neos Kosmos Newspaper
On 1st February 2010, Neos Kosmos newspaper in Australia published the first installment of my regular column 'Ancient Greece: the reality'. Look out for new installments every fortnight during 2010 and 2011, in which I will be investigating everything from Greek democracy to graves, punishments for adultery to prizes in athletic games and from Greece's great battles to its favourite tipple.

The column will also be published online by BBC History Magazine in the UK.

See my latest comment piece in the national press on the Guardian Comment is Free website about the use and importance of Hollywood adaptations of ancient history.
